where you come from   your absence argues
its existence   its distance
argues yours
as far as you can remember
father and farther
a foreign accent that can’t be placed

native/derivative

migrant

now you live in Parentheses
in Shadows of Words
in Country Made of Lines and Dots

***

all the time he was there he kept a journal
sentence began   was crossed out   began again
same sentence   for pages
what was it trying to say
a matter of forgetting what one never knew

circular argument

city squared

road blocks a head

as for processing new information while tourists and TV
don’t read what you believe in the papers

***

alphabet arranged/arraigned
once you learn how to write you’ll learn you can read

in a crowded street a stranger mistakes you
for someone else   the longer he stares
the stranger you become

lost but not found
forgotten but not remembered

yes you belong   but it won’t be long
